The basic unit of [[gamma ray]] exposure. One roentgen is the exposure resulting from the generation of one electrostatic unit (esu) of charge per 0.001293 g (1 cm<sup>3</sup> at STP) of dry air. A fixed exposure rate exists at every point in space surrounding a source of fixed intensity.
