terms:focused_log

Refers to a well log produced by any well-logging device in which survey-current flow is focused or otherwise controlled. Examples of focused logs are: laterolog, guard log, microlaterolog, induction log, and spherically focused log.

There are two main purposes for focusing survey current of resistivity-measuring devices:
(1) To increase vertical resolution of the logging tool; i.e., improve its capability to resolve thin beds. That reduces the influence of adjacent beds on the measurements.
(2) To reduce the influences of borehole and mud cake in the presence of saline drilling mud.
