The central, dense, positively-charged core of an atom. The nucleus makes up practically the entire mass of an atom. The nucleus of an atom is composed of one or more protons and one or more neutrons; except in the case of the hydrogen atom, which has only one proton as its nucleus (in its most common isotope).
